Elderly Housing Programme expands to include assisted living

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced a major expansion of the Elderly Housing Programme to include comprehensive assisted living facilities. This initiative addresses the growing need for specialized housing solutions for Trinidad and Tobago's aging population.

The expanded programme will include three new assisted living complexes:

  • Golden Years Complex, Port of Spain: 120 units with 24/7 medical support

Each facility will provide comprehensive care and support services:

  • 24/7 nursing and medical care
  • Personal care assistance with daily activities
  • Specialized dietary and nutrition services
  • Recreational and social activities
  • Transportation services for medical appointments
  • Security and emergency response systems

The programme offers subsidized rates based on income levels:

  • Low-income residents: 20% of monthly income
  • Middle-income residents: 40% of monthly income
  • All residents: Includes meals, utilities, and basic medical care

Construction Timeline

Construction will begin in September 2025, with the first facility expected to open in March 2026. All three facilities are scheduled for completion by December 2026.
