Minister announces 500 new units in Central Trinidad
A groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of construction for 500 new affordable housing units across three developments in Central Trinidad.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable Camille Robinson-Regis, officially broke ground on three major housing developments that will deliver 500 new affordable housing units to families in Central Trinidad.
Development Locations
The new housing units will be constructed across three strategic locations:
- Chaguanas Heights: 200 units featuring 2 and 3-bedroom apartments
- Couva Gardens: 150 units with townhouse-style family homes
- Freeport Meadows: 150 units including accessible units for elderly residents
Construction Timeline
Construction is expected to begin in July 2025, with the first phase of units ready for occupancy by mid-2026. The entire project is scheduled for completion by December 2026.
Community Impact
These developments will include community amenities such as:
- Playground and recreational areas
- Community centers
- Parking facilities
- Landscaped common areas
The Minister emphasized that these developments represent a $750 million investment in affordable housing and will create approximately 800 construction jobs during the building phase.
