Income ceiling updated for housing applications
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development announces new income thresholds for housing programme eligibility, expanding access to middle-income families.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced significant updates to the income ceiling requirements for housing programme applications, effective immediately. This policy change represents a major step forward in expanding access to affordable housing for middle-income families across Trinidad and Tobago.
Key Changes
The new income thresholds have been adjusted as follows:
- Single applicants: Maximum monthly income increased from $8,000 to $10,000 TTD
- Couples without dependents: Maximum combined monthly income increased from $12,000 to $15,000 TTD
- Families with dependents: Maximum combined monthly income increased from $15,000 to $18,000 TTD
Impact on Applicants
These changes are expected to benefit approximately 3,500 additional families who were previously ineligible due to income restrictions. The updated thresholds reflect current economic conditions and the rising cost of living, ensuring that housing programmes remain accessible to those who need them most.
Application Process
Current applicants who were previously rejected due to income limits are encouraged to reapply. The new criteria will be applied retroactively to all pending applications from the past six months.
